There´s nothing more beautiful than the soft, cozy and warm touch of pure merino wool. And it has superior, natural qualities which makes it the perfect fiber for children´s clothes.
WHY DID WE CHOOSE MERINO WOOL FOR OUR PRODUCTS?
Merino wool comes from merino sheep - the breed of sheep offering the finest wool for luxury clothes. Due to its super fine fiber merino wool can be softer than cashmere and smoother than silk. It is soft enough to be worn next to the skin without scratching.
Merino wool is temperature regulating by nature. It can keep and release heat depending on the wearer’s next-to-skin environment and external conditions. As merino absorbs moisture, it releases a small amount of heat, and in hot conditions, the opposite effect happens. It can absorb up to 35% of its own weight in water before feeling wet. This natural effect guarantees a perfect wear sensation and ensures that your little one neither gets hot and sweaty nor freezing and cold. This makes it an all-year companion.
Merino wool naturally protects from UVA and UVB rays without extra fabric treatment. This makes it the perfect fabric to wear in summer.
Merino wool is by nature water- and dirt-repellant due to the lanolin, a natural wax which surrounds the fiber. The wool grease works as a protective layer. Dirt and odor got stick on the surface and don´t make it into the fiber. Therefore, merino wool outperforms other fibers when it comes to the build-up of unpleasant odors. Due to the creasy fibers and the surface tension small amounts of liquids just drip off.
Merino wool is very easy to care for and can be washed in the washing machine by using the wool cycle, a mild wool detergent and a washing net. So in case it gets a bit messy with your little one there is no need to worry. Just follow the care instruction in our care guide or on the neck label and your mamelo will be clean again in no time and ready for the next adventure.
Finally merino wool is a natural, renewable and biodegradable fiber which, under the right conditions, will fully biodegrade when buried in soil after only 90 days. It needs less energy and water than other fibers. For example, merino wool uses 18% less energy than polyester and nearly 70% less water than cotton.
As a naturally durable fiber, merino wool offers many opportunities to keep a product in circulation for a relatively long period of time, thereby reducing the product’s environmental footprint. Thus merino wool makes the perfect fiber for circularity.
As we put quality, people and planet first our merino wool is GOTS certified (CU857224GOTS-2020-00011097 / GOTS 2014-026). This certificate guarantees the well-being of animals, fair working conditions for people and ensures that it is responsibly and sustainably produced. Without chemicals and toxins. Ready to be worn next to the skin of your little one.
